Tribeca Film acquires rights to cool new doc about the digital revolution
Our friends at Tribeca Film have acquired the North American rights to a cool new documentary about the digital film-making revolution, called Side by Side. The film is produced and presented by Keanu Reeves, who speaks with a who’s who of directors — like James Cameron, George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch and Steven Soderbergh.
The doc tries to answer one key question: with the emergence of new digital technologies, is film dead? To hear James Cameron tell it, the answer is a resounding yes. ”You can’t shoot 3D in film”, said Cameron, “so film has been dead in my heart for 10 years.” Ouch.
Reeves is planning a broadcast premiere sometime later this year, and a nationwide tour of film schools and college campuses. Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think in the Comments section below. Is film really dead?
